ANTONUCCI IS IN THE RACE

Hazlet Township Committeewoman Bridget Antonucci has made it official after months of silence. She has announced her intention to run for Freeholder in an e-mail to Women's Federation members, as well as by letter to County Committee members.
Her letter, or more accurately flyer, lists her views favoring term limits for freeholders and why she feels she can win in November.
Antonucci's slogan is "Fresh Face, New Ideas!", and she says, "I'll continue to uphold the honesty, integrity, and passion of the Monmouth County Republican Party."

NOTE: I would advise those posting newspaper articles to post a link from now on. Posting the entire article as a comment takes up a lot of space, especially if more than one article is posted.

Bridget Antonucci has barely completed the first year of her first term on the Hazlet Township Committee, and already she has revealed her lofty political ambitions. So far, her most influential act as a public servant was to support Scott Broschart as he, along with County Chairman Fred Niemann, failed in a devious bid to usurp a spot on the Republican ballot in Hazlet’s special election to replace Paul Coughlin.

Mrs. Antonucci's recent comment regarding the need for "a fresh face in Monmouth County politics," does not support the facts. We already have plenty of new faces in Freehold. If long time Freeholder, Ted Narozanick, were to retire, Rob Clifton, who was recently elected in 2004 as Amy Handlin’s running mate, would become the senior member of that board. Mrs. Antonucci did not explain how her presence on the board would, "help change" the perception that "freeholders have had this stereotype of being corrupt and dirty."

Mrs. Antonucci’s comments and behavior during her brief tenure on Hazlet’s governing body exemplify that she is more interested in furthering her career as a politician than working to improve the quality of life in Monmouth County. It is also my opinion that Mrs. Antonucci's candidacy is an attempt by someone to manipulate the outcome of the election by drawing votes away from other, more qualified candidates, which would be less than honest, if not corrupt and dirty.

No positive experience…no positive credibility…positively no seat in Freehold!

Honest Abe said...

Word in Freehold is that she's a stalking-horse for Niemann's choice, Joe DiBella. Divide up the votes among a large enough number of candidates, and DiBella can win on a simple plurality, even without a majority.
My fear is that he then drags the whole "Jerry Springer Show" that is Howell politics right up the steps of the Hall of Records.

Back to Hazlet. I still don't know what that whole Broschart mess was all about. What would Niemann and Gallic hope to accomplish by interfering in the workings of a local organization that by all accounts, except for the Coughlin problem, wasn't broken? Steve Grossman always seemed to have things well in hand up there. It just seems like a very dumb move on Niemann and Gallic's part. If they had stayed out of it and let the local organization pick the candidate I believe you would have definitely elected Medrow and probably Kolibas too.

I believe if you check, the appropriate statue, that the direct replacement by county committee of a resigned office holder requires a majority vote. Therefore, for all those conspiracy theorists, you can put fifty candidates on the ballot, but at the end of the day you will need to have as nay ballots as it takes, generally dropping low candidates off, until there is a candidate who wins by majority. Maybe Bridget or whoever else is currently running or will decide to run, is doing it because they want the job!

Rich Kohler said...

It's one thing to want the job, but quite another thing to be qualified for that job.

Art Gallagher said...

No surprise that I'm in agreement with Rich and Abe here. Bridget's candidacy is an attempt to derail Little. Hopefully it will be too Little and too late. (pause for groans)

I think Neimann's motives for interfering in Hazlet, as well as in Howell and other towns are pretty clear. Its all about professional appointments and lining the his pockets and those of his cronies.

In several municipal elections last year, financial help was offered with the strings of guaranteed appointments attached.

It sad, but Fred started off with such promise and opportunity. But he hasn't kept his word and he's obviously all about business (his business) and not about good government in Monmouth County.

Bridget is a nice person. But, she does not have the experience of a veteran elected official.

Fred is "doing it" again. He has no actual votes, he has to make deals because he has no actual base. Dan Gallic, his "Ed McMahon," doesn't know Monmouth from a hole in the wall and has some off-the-wall ideas that are both bizarre and authoritarian (that's going over well).

Antonucci's candidacy is just another bad idea from the Bad Idea Company that has become the current organization leadership. Of course there are exceptions.

In fact, the GOP does have brighter days ahead...very bright ones. But, that will be in the post Apocalyptic period that will come to be known as "The Days After Fred."

School children will be given this day off from school and there will be games and festivals held in its honor as banners are flown and bells in churches are rang. : )

OK, maybe there won't be any bells ringing...and maybe the kids will only get a half day. But, for the festivals to be held, a turkey will be spared by the governor as an act of clemency in keeping with the joyous day. (lol)

But this much is sure...Bridget's listening to the wrong people; unfortunately they are "in charge."

Anonymous said...

Antonucci's "resume" is the same format and font as DiBella's. She added an extra year to her term just like DiBella. DiBella was very worried about Anna Little.

The county has a great many intelligent and capable future leaders at the municipal level. Some may be better than others. Some may have more experience, some may have a better vision for the future. All have a right to express their views and show their positive side that will help the ticket in November. We don't need to tear them apart. The democrats will have plenty of time to do that. Neither do we need to listen to dem's like Purcell and his cronies to pick our candidates. When Dowd was removed, a big rallying cry was that he bad-mouthed other Republicans. That's what most people on this site our doing.

Anonymous said...

Jim Purcell, a self esposed Democrat, makes the suggestion that the leader of the Republican Party in Monmouth should be thrown out...I suppose we Republicans should look at that and support Fred even more. If Jim "The Democrat" Purcell is actually spending that much time on Fred, then Fred must be a real threat.

Long live Chairman Niemann

The notion that Antonucci is a front for DiBella is merely a ploy by the same insecure fools who are saddened by their own enept abilities to account for much in this party. Especially Rich Kohler, who is not even a member of the county committee in his own town. His attempt to sabatoge Mrs. Antonucci's campaign is truly pathetic. As a matter of fact, I dont ever recall seeing or hearing of him at any county event over the last five years. I'm curious as to what suddenly makes him a so called expert on county issues.

Mr. 2:15 anonymous said it best. "Maybe Bridget or whoever else is currently running or will decide to run, is doing it because they want the job! " Very well put!

Abe, I'm curious as to why you've jumped on the nonsense Antonucci/Niemann bandwagon. You were the first to mention anything about her possibly running, way back in Oct or November.

Honest Abe said...

"Abe, I'm curious as to why you've jumped on the nonsense Antonucci/Niemann bandwagon. You were the first to mention anything about her possibly running, way back in Oct or November."

My sources on this are in Freehold and have nothing to do with Rich Kohler and Hazlet. I've never met Mr. Kohler. I would hope that these theories are wrong about Mrs. Antonucci as I believe she has a future in the Republican Party.
If there is anything going on "behind the scenes" to hel[p DiBella I'm sure Mrs. Antonucci has nothing herself to do with it.
I should have been more clear on that.

Downtowner said...

Mrs. Antonucci is quite aware of these things, and has, infact, joined a faction.

It is Amy's side, Fred's side, but most importantly Peter's side. He delievered the 13th for Amy and no one else.

Naivete is not possible to a certain point. Come on.

Art Gallagher said...

Jim Purcell said:

"Naivete is not possible to a certain point."

Perhaps so, but, naive or not who can blame Bridget for throwing her hat into the ring after a call from Amy. Bridget has nothing to lose. If she wins she's a Freeholder. 2 years ago she was an out of work school teacher. If she doesn't win she's got countywide name recognition and new influential friends.

Bridget's "fresh face" theme could just as well describe Little. As Bridget is being used by one faction, Anna is being used by another. Both are relatively young and inexperienced. Anna has more and better experience and is being used by a more honorable faction, in my humble opinion.

Either way the machine will do all it can to get DiBella the seat. It's about money and appointments.

For those who want good government, let's hope the bayshore communities don't get fooled by this ploy and that McKenna makes a deal for future support as either county chairman or the next open Freeholder seat and supports Little for the open seat. Otherwise, DiBella gets the seat, Ted will run and face a primary either from Bridget or a Middletown Committe person in June, and the Dems will win at least one if not two seats in November.

Anonymous said...

DiBella has clearly separated himself in this race. I have heard him speak twice now and the man has the gift. McKenna is a screamer and seems too "mad" all the time. The others seem very junior varsity next to Dibella. I like it that he has so many of the old guard scared because this says all I need to know that they are afiard he'll do what needs to be down up on the hill.

Anonymous said...

Joe, get off the computer and get back to making money for George Norcross. "Old guard and junior varsity" are some of your catch phrases, and you were overheard describing McKenna as a screamer. He's not from Monmouth... this year he lost the entire top half of the county and is pretty much walking wounded when it comes to credibility. That's your quarterback?

I'll give you several:

Integrity and commitment to be of service. Mrs. Little commitment to "doing it right" is often maddening to those of us who have worked with her that just want to get the job done.

Despite many offers she has turned down sigificant financial opportunities what might give an appearance of a conflict, even though "everybody" does it. Her livlihood is not dependent on municipal or county work.

She has turned down campaign contributions from "the machine" that came with stings attached.

She's genuine and sincere. She's offering her services based only on who she is, what she has accomplished and what she stands for. I have yet to hear her say a negative word about any of her opponents, in this election or in her last two.

She's smart and compassionate.

"Imbecile," Bill?

Ya think?

I grew up on the Tex-Mex border, which is more than you kids from Monmouth County ever did. My first professional story was about illegals crossing from Mexico via Coyotes in Brownsville, while I was stationed at Hood. Spent 2 days with them after some nasty business on the Rio Grande, on the Matamoros side...yes, cutlery was involved. Still, brought home the story with pix... brought a photographer who still has his finger and toes.

Also spent a couple days with US Border Patrol. Oh yeah, spent from 13-16 years old less than 2 miles from the border. Yeah...you folks know a lot about immigration...and Latin America. I suppose "experts" from Monmouth should write books about immigration, titled, "From Navesink to Monterrey: A Survivor's Story."

I'm sure Princeton or Yale or wherever the hell you folks came from after Mom and Dad sent you to school taught you a whole lot about the Rio Grande (or any border communities) or Nogales (that's in Arizona) or the like. Heck, these institutions probably taught EVERYTHING about what people have to go through to get here and especially how many Latin Americans die on Freedom Bridge, the Mexican side of Matamoros/Brownsville every week... just trying to get to the US before they die.

Or...could it be? You're speculating...like a bunch of junior Spanish class students who know:A. a whole lot, B. about enough, or C. not a damn thing.

I'll bank on "C." Mr. Bush doesn't have it right to my estimation... I don't think he spent a lot of time down there either but he sure specualtes some. But, why would he? If one was rich they wouldn't be there. I would respect the opinion of people a whole lot more if they booked passage to McAllen, Texas and spent some time a couple hours South for the afternoon...even if it's picking up inexpensive leather goods and tinrkets from the locals and actually seeing something not on a TV screen. Watch out for the lizards in the motel rooms, kids.

Illegal immigration is sad... though not to be put up with. Immigration lawyers do a yeoman's job, but they do not protect illegals. They simply help to enact the system put in place by, was it the Founder? Yeah! Or, didn't they teach that at some prep school or other in Monmouth County or wheverver.

I'm sure there are wonderful books on the subject and not a few DVDs.

Can we get back to Bridget as a candidate here please.

She has the tools to get elected and be good. Young, smart, attractive. She was born and raised in Monmouth and can win in November. Much easier to accept that McKenna, Little or Dibella. She is the darl horse here and I believe is Fred's real choice because he knows she does not belomg to anyone like the others. Better candidadate that Little, much softer that McKenna and less of an ego than Dibella. Also has an Italian name which helps with all the Staten Island transplants.

Anonymous said...

Bridget is a nice lady but she really doesn't have anywhere near the necessary background for freeholder. She may in five or six years if she continues in local government. Right now she is a flash in the pan and a little bit of a lightweight.

One more thing - she allied herself with Broschart and he was certainly a self-serving phoney who up and left when it suited him. That was a BIG mistake. She should have known better. She doesn't have enough time in the trenches to know what she should be doing.

She has been injected into the campaign at the last minute simply to take votes away from Anna Little (for the benefit of DiBella). The powers that be are afraid that Anna Little will win the nomination. Personally, I think she is a very electable candidate this year. She is intelligent, speaks well and comes across as a very sincere human being.

DiBella comes across as a flim-flam salesman. If you don't pay attention to every word he says you will find yourself buying into the "now you see it- now you don't". He has a lot of baggage that the Democrats will exploit when it is too late to replace him in the campaign.

Bob McKenna comes off as a little "over the top" but he knows what he is doing and has a great message. If he gets more people friendly, he will be a great candidate. But, I like Anna Little.

Where do you hear your information from. The last time I checked Antonucci was running and not endorsing anyone but herself. I believe that it was Gus who endorsed DiBella. As far as someone commenting on her speaking abilities, when did you hear her speak. I am currently undecided, however listening to these ridiculous comments and criticsms from Little's people makes me turn away from voting for her. The last piece of literature that I received from Little had "little" to say about her abilities to govern. I did however learn how much she loves fried flounder and that she was "Marty" in Greese in what 8th grade. I wasn't aware that they were Freeholder qualities. I personally think that we have enough actors in politics.

Reviewing the candidates, I think if anyone looked at DeSeno, you may be impressed.

Everyone on this site who does nothing but trash candidates and their supporters are the reason that are party is a mess and very split.

Bridgett is just running to take votes away from Little at DiBella's and Kelly's request. She's an empty suit, dress, whatever.

I enjoyed Littles releases and speeches. I think that she touches the heart of true Monmouth County people by bringing up her memories. It is something that we can all relate to and I think that she may be electible in Nov.
