MALCOLM CARTON REAPPOINTED

Veteran County Counsel Malcolm Carton was reappointed to his position last night by a 3 - 2 vote of the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Freeholders Robert Clifton and Anna C. Little provided the dissenting votes.

According to the Asbury Park Press, Clifton and Little said they both voted against Carton's appointment because they supported change for the county counsel position."There is a new freeholder board and I felt it would have been a great time to bring change,'' Clifton said.

This recalls another 3 - 2 vote in 1988 where Carton was reappointed on the votes of Freeholder Director Harry Larrison, Jr. and Democratic Freeholders John D'Amico and John Villapiano, with Republican Freeholders Tom Powers and Ted Narozanick dissenting.

Other attorney appointments went to Rick DeNoia of Little Silver, the Hanlon & Niemann Law Firm and Democratic Red Bank Mayor Ed McKenna's firm. Little and Narozanick both voted no on Niemann's firm, and Little also voted no on McKenna.

Is McKenna becoming a Republican, or is being buddys with the Director a good enough reason to get one of those jobs?

I come back from the Amazon (having avoided candiru but having had a close call with some head hunters) and I pick up the paper and see this. What is Burry thinking about. At least Anna and Clifton had the Brains to not vote to reapoint someone of questionable legal ability, who is a political liability and has the personality of a cranky nasty old man.
But that is not enough they also give ED MCKENNA a job. Ask Red Bank Republicans what they think of Fast Eddie. Ask People in Tinton Falls where he was boro attorney what they think of him. He is part of the reason Ann Mcnamara is no longer the mayor in Tinton Falls. Eddie used to be a Republican, in the young Republicans and a protege of Michael Arnone. Then, because things where not opening up for him fast enough, he knifed Arnone in the back and turned Democrat.
(hey Clifton, how do you think Mike feels about your vote you disloyal son of a ---)
The guy oozes sleaze out of every pore and orifice on his body.

Barham obviously cares more about his drinking buddies then he does about Monmouth County or the Republican Party.
What can be done about it? remember this next time Barham (and Burry and Clifton for that matter) appear before the committee seeking to be renominated. Would it even make a difference if the Democrats controlled the Board. I am beginning to think not and I have been a loyal republican for 25 years. I for one will not donate money to any of the sitting Freeholders other then Anna from now on.

I think Ed McKenna is "in" because there's a John Lynch tie there. It happens throughout the GOP in Monmouth, because Lynch has become a fixture there.

His appointment is objectionable on a lot of levels to both parties and anyone paying taxes.

It's less about parties than it is about BUSINESS and who is in BUSINESS together.

It's not partisanship...it's business partnership.

And I think Ed McKenna is "in" because there's a Director Billy Barham tie there. Newsflash: Barham and McKenna are old friends for decades, going back to their days at CBA. No secret. No Lynch hiding in the closet here, Jim. And don't start with the Rob Clifton thing either, because he's not the connection here.
What's happening "throughout the GOP in Monmouth" is that people are rallying in support of Freeholder Anna C. Little's "NO" votes; they are not happy with the board's McKenna appointment.
Politically a real dumb move, but no sinister plot, Jim. No monster under your bed.
Get over it.

"Rasta" is Brian and who cares:

Fact: I went to HS with a lot of guys and NONE of us hooked anyone else up. PS: We were too busy serving in uniform. Hook ups in the "second age" are about patronage and not who had lunch with who in 6th period.

The fact is that Lynch has been a McKenna guy and a Monmouth County GOP guy FOREVER and there is a conspiracy theory behind it because there is a conspiracy with YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND CANDIDATES (with great exception).

It's the SAME reason there was a Middlesex superintendent of the Middletown school district. It is the SAME reason that Matawan was sold down the river. It was the SAME reason that the monmouth county republican party and its former STATE CHAIRMAN left MIDDLESEX REPUBLICANS TWISTING in the wind...because it was convenient...because it was "business" and because it was Lynch.

Congrats, folks, of all the county counsel you COULD have picked you picked the one that confirms ABSOLUTELY EVERY ONE OF MY OPINIONS about YOUR PARTY and how YOU FOLKS conduct business. It is EVERY REASON I left it and every reason I am a Democrat today.

Go on with your preaching about "Union County" and the like. Fact is you have nothing about concrete actions by ANYONE except MIDDLESEX COUTNY DEMOCRATS OWNING THE MONMOUTH REPUBLICANS and THAT us an UNPLEASANT TRUTH THAT NO ONE WANTS TO OWN UP TO.

You folks are great Americans. Yeah, you deserve to win in November.

While that may be true among the rank and file, it is certainly not true among the "Good Old Boys" as the APP called them. Those "Old Boys" have little use for Anna (pardon the pun) and they gave the DEMS an issue for the campaign, regardless of how Anna voted on Malcolm.

Politically a real dumb move, but no sinister plot

I'm not so sure about that.

And don't start with the Rob Clifton thing either, because he's not the connection here

TR makes a good point about Rob's vote for McKenna vs loyalty to his mentor Arnone.

CBA? Lynch? probably a combination of Both. Lynch has a lot of friends in the Republicans. The CBA fraternity is very tight.
But you know what. Who cares . Why is almost irrelevant at this time.
The fact is two very bad decisions have been made by the Freholders Some might even say there actions are high treason against the party.
The question we should be asking is WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO ABOUT IT?

First and foremost, we must not let this "snafu" distract us from the No. 1 business at hand: Electing Rosemarie Peters as Surrogate and Andrew Lucas and Anna Little as Freeholders. That is the priority right now.

Respectfully Mr. President, this was no snafu or political blunder. It was intentional and strategic, and it has Fred Laden's stench all over it. We need to keep that in mind as we focus on the business at hand. We've defeated him before, and we will again.

I hope its Unger. Are you ready Fred? Bill? Ed? John? Joshua? This is going to be fun.

Don't worry about Fred's tan, Lisa. He sprays it on. No sun required.
