UPDATE - - OXLEY NOT RUNNING

"There is a bit of a vacuum, and it is fair to say we only have a month. I think the party faces some tough times."
...Former County Republican Chairman William F. Dowd.
Well, I won't be able to use the banner "There's a New Sheriff in Town" after the June reorganization, nor would I be able to say, "Use 'Oxley-Clean' to Remove Stains from Your Political Party!"
The Asbury Park Press and Will Seward report today that Sheriff Joe Oxley will unfortunately not be a candidate for County Chairman. And Wally Edge reports two additional possibilities for the post: Madeline Ferraro, currently a lobbyist and former Appointments Counsel to Governor Christine Todd Whitman; and former New Jersey Republican State Committee Executive Director and Joe DiBella campaign manager Brian Nelson. As far as I know, Ekdahl, Stominski and Hood are still interested.
UPDATE
Wally Edge is now mentioning former Acting Gov. John O. Bennett. And Jim Purcell says Jim Giannell may be considering a go at it.
UPDATED UPDATE
And now, the Asbury Park Press has Ekdahl out, with Giannell and Middletown GOP Chairman Peter Carton thinking it over.
A very fluid situation indeed. Let's not turn this into Bergen, folks.

Madeline Ferrao seems interesting. And she has some interesting relationships. She's on the Board of Trustees at Brookdale, which is chaired by Howard Birdsall and vice chaired by Jacob Elkes.

She has also recently been associated with Assemblyman Michael Panter:

I don't know Madeline. Perhaps she'd be wonderful. However, as a prominent lobbyist she needs to make nice with the Democrats in Trenton to succeed at her job. I don't know how one would do that and be a county GOP chair without inevitable conflicts.

I look forward to hearing what she has to say about that.

Oh Boy. It looks like Madeline was a contributor to Howard Dean!

A possible wild card would be a Niemann-backed candidate a la Joe DiBella...

Ya think it could be her?

Could be. Coming out of the blue like this makes you wonder. Once the Howard Dean donation gets around, she won't be a factor. 2 Rivers will never support her given her ties to Panter.

Steve Corodemus would be a good chairman. Unfortunately he's not much of a risk taker. It very unlikely that he would seek the job.

Maybe I should eat my words to Secretary Stanton and start drafting Bob McKenna. The field is looking very weak.

I'd just like to remind that Courier has a new story about this up on our site. It's got a little different info then the APP story. Check it out. It's in our "web special" section.

"Are you guys "funnin'" with me about Brian Nelson?"

Nope. He was a new one on me. Wally Edge reported that; I don't know where he got it from.

Brian Nelson in a young man with big ambitions and a lot to learn.

Unfortunately, like many young men, he doesn't know that he has a lot to learn. He's not ready for prime time.

With time under Peter's wings and some sand paper to his shoulders, he could be a player.

"previously it was mentioned that ...mary fran lane wanted the treasurer position.

"mflane should be investigated for her acconting practices in terms of republican committee funds, and how it is that she has been writing out checks to herself, so, she should be taken out of consideration."

Let's be careful here. Very careful. This may be a totally legitimate stipend or reimbursement, authorized when she became treasurer. There are very few individuals as knowledgeable as Mary Fran in the rules of ELEC.
Some have been trying to spin this as some sort of a deep, dark "embezzlement" scheme, and sorry, I'm just not buying it.

Pete Carton would be great...lots of bonding...Gibbons, Del Deo makes a ton...and Pete's croneys get four of five county office apiece. I don't know, I think he might just be the guy for the job.

Who wants honesty in the GOP? The shock may be too much. If government isn't about money, what the heck use is it then?

"Where are the leaders?

Where are the people who can truly lead the party and accomplish big things without concern over being attacked for accomplishing great things.

Does anyone consider this truth?

Is it not worthy of discussion."

Hmmm, is this a new wolf in sheep's clothing or an old one with a new disguise?

Great leaders expect to be attacked. All who have come before them have been attacked. Can you name one in history who hasn't been?

But being attacked is not evidence for being a great leader.

This whimper is reminiscent of Bob Torricelli's farewell weep:

"When did we become such an unforgiving people?"

OK GW, you asked so you answer first. Who is the right choice for you???

carton doesn't do bylaws or share power with anyone.

that will put you back at odds with the grassroots. multiple office holding, bonding for its own sake and the other abuses in middletown will not play in the rest of the county.

he's a strong chair and he needs to be a part of the new order, but to put him at the top will be very bad and very quickly.

he is a winner and he is bright, but his kind of game will undo things. it's only about money for that one.

near the top he would bring the party back with a more populist leader. of course their relationship would be poor as he tries the intrigues, but at the top he would be very bad and present a lot of different high silhouette targets for the app.

elect him...find out. can the party afford another bad choice?

Those of you touting Bob Mckenna had better take a look at how he runs Wall. No bylaws there. Lots of Iron fist and no velvet glove.
