MERLA MAY RUN AGAIN.

Today's Asbury Park Press reports that John Merla may seek reelection as Mayor of Keyport as an independent. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty, but is this a wise move? Read the article here.

politics is funny. i think something no one is thinking about, and maybe it's not that important outside keyport, but if merla gets a third party going it's not going to be welcome by either republicans or democrats.

but, he has some very strong support though it will be at least interesting to see just how strong or weak in an acid test at the polls.

as much of a media maelstrom as this will bring, it will nonetheless be interesting.

Is it a wise move? I he a wise man?

The answer to both questions is probably not. It only gives the US Attorney's office more motivation to nail him, not that they need anymore.

Win or lose in court, he will lose at the ballot box.

John would be better served to focus his time, energy and money on his defense.

"I wonder if something else is going on here. I wonder if it is a ploy to drive up turnout in Keyport if his former campaign manager Terence Wall is the nominated candidate in the fall."

I think that would backfire on Terence if he did.
